Lane first came to see me last year for his 1st birthday photos complete with cake smash! I don't particularly remember him loving the camera then either, but I think the cake served as a great distraction! This time we had no cake to use as a distraction and he really really did not like the fact that I wanted to take pictures of him doing his thing. But here's the thing, does any 2 year old truly enjoy doing anything that wasn't their idea first? The answer is no. It's just life with a toddler. Since I strive to capture real moments and personalities, I didn't trash the pictures of little Lane crying. I think they're just as adorable as when he smiles because frankly no child is going to be happy 100% of the time and if Lane wasn't feeling our photo shoot that's ok. That's him. He expressed his feelings and caught them in fun ways! The thing I love most about his mom, Lacie, is that even though she was probably a little disappointed that he wouldn't give us a bunch of giant grins, she just went with it, too. She laughed right along with me, because she knows he doesn't spend his life crying every second of the day, but this was him on this day at this time. I've got some tricks up my sleeve for the next time though, Lane! I will get a smile! And until then, I think this should serve as awesome proof that even if your session doesn't go according to the plans we may have in our heads, I promise you will still end up with pictures you will always treasure! Because as you will see in this shoot, despite Lane's utter disgust for the camera at times (most times, to be perfectly honest), he still showed us his true love for his mommy by always wanting to hold her hand or be carried by her, his innocent looks of wonder, and of course those gorgeous blue eyes!
